Coco Software Studio / INDEPENDENT DIGITAL STUDIO
✳ When the studio became the client Coco / STUDIO CASE STUDY / 2026

We redesigned our website.
And how people understand our business.

This was never about a prettier homepage. We used our own business to test a bigger question: how can an independent software studio help different kinds of customers find their way in, understand the value, build trust and take a confident next step?

STUDIO NOTE · 01
Visual design is the output. The real work sits between strategy, content and workflow. STUDIO CASE STUDY   ↙
01 / THE BRIEF

The old website was not the problem.
What it left unsaid was.

Our original site led with “Business bottlenecks? Solved with tech.” and spoke about local relationships, client work and ongoing support. Those are strengths worth keeping. The gap was that a diverse, nuanced capability set had been compressed into a handful of service cards and a general contact journey.

COCO / STRATEGY NOTE

Our decision: preserve the honest positioning and make it an organising principle across the whole experience.

Established strengths

  • A commercial rather than jargon-heavy headline
  • Sydney-based, direct communication and long-term relationships
  • Bilingual content, real case studies, blog posts and SEO foundations

Areas for evolution

  • Non-technical owners needed a clearer, outcome-driven starting point
  • Platform-specific buyers needed a faster route to specialised work
  • Insights and proof were not yet connected into an intentional discovery-to-enquiry journey
02 / BEFORE → AFTER

One business.
Two very different ways to explain it.

BEFORE · ORIGINAL STRUCTURE 01 / BEFORE
SYDNEY · EST. 2014 · LOCAL TECH PARTNER Business bottlenecks?
Solved with tech.

Reliable tech. Ongoing partnership. Fair pricing.

Original homepage information architecture

The original homepage introduced services by category and highlighted local support, pricing and long-term partnership. It provided a direct path for someone who already knew what to buy.

AFTER · REDESIGNED EXPERIENCE 02 / AFTER

Redesigned homepage experience

The redesign begins with “What would you like your business to do better?” and offers Attract, Convert, Retain and Simplify. Visitors with specific technical requirements can still enter directly through a searchable services directory.

03 / INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE

One website. Two ways to find an answer.

Different visitors do not simply sit at different stages of readiness. They speak different languages: business owners describe outcomes, while technical buyers name platforms and integrations. We built a pathway for each, and designed the content to reconnect them.

PATH A · BUSINESS-FIRST

Start with your goal

Attract
Convert
Retain
Simplify
↳ Solution → Real client work → Business review
PATH B · EXPERTISE-FIRST

Find the exact capability

WordPress plugins
Shopify / OpenCart
Xero / APIs
AI workflows
↳ Search & categories → Service detail → Related case

Not two separate sites. Both routes use the same brand, evidence, editorial content and enquiry strategy.

04 / BUSINESS JOURNEYS

Instead of leading with “what we build”,
we start with “where your business gets stuck”.

Four distinct business stories, not four fixed software packages. Each explores real context before introducing design, content or system changes. Switch between the scenarios below.

ATTRACT

Help the right customers find you.

If customers cannot discover, understand or trust you, buying more ads may not fix the problem. Start with positioning, evidence, search visibility and the path to get in touch.

We put content, visual design, SEO/GEO and credible proof into one journey: discover → trust → enquire.

Help the right customers find you.
04B / WHAT ITERATION ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Industry understanding
is not a feature list.

Our first Wholesale Solution concept showed catalogue search, negotiated pricing, offline capture and order hand-off. The capabilities were plausible. The story was shallow: it did not explain how a wholesale deal actually comes together.

We moved the starting point into the store aisle with a field sales representative: reading the shelves, understanding a retailer’s replenishment decision, agreeing terms, coping with poor reception and getting the order accurately into finance. The owner’s concern is not just data-entry speed, but whether growth requires proportionally more administrative effort.

This is the method we want clients to recognise. When feedback said “there’s no industry insight”, the answer was not another interface. It was a better problem definition.

05 / BRAND & EXPERIENCE

Not “more like a tech company”.
More recognisable. More trustworthy.

A visual system sets the mood; information design makes complexity understandable. Warm ivory, deep evergreen and a restrained coral accent support editorial typography and detailed stories. The subtle geometry echoes Coco's brand identity, balancing technical precision with approachable craftsmanship.

PAPER / IVORY
DEEP EVERGREEN
SOFT SAGE
CORAL ACCENT
Warm ivory & evergreen

Avoid cold, generic tech aesthetics and support longer-form business stories.

Purposeful coral

Reserve contrast for meaningful actions, emphasis and interaction states.

Editorial hierarchy

Use pacing, generous whitespace and concrete UI illustrations to make complex services easier to scan.

Mobile & bilingual by design

Treat English and Chinese as first-class experiences, with readable content and controls on small screens.

“Premium” is not the goal. Clear, confident understanding is.

06 / EXPERTISE DISCOVERY

Business language starts the conversation.
Technical depth earns confidence.

The redesign gives expert buyers a precise route in. The bilingual Services Directory covers eight categories and extensive service entries, with search and connections to related real-world cases.

07 / CONTENT → TRUST → ACTION

Content should do more than get indexed.
It should help people make a decision.

Content should do more than share knowledge; it connects insight directly with practical execution. Every technical guide and industry article is mapped to relevant services, verified client cases, and actionable next steps.

Be discovered

Answer specific questions with useful articles, clear service names and accessible content.

Be understood

Explain suitability through scenarios, technical boundaries, FAQs and thoughtful translation.

Earn trust

Connect to verifiable client work such as Lavish Beauty, Hansford and JStudio without inflating claims.

Make the next step relevant

Link a reader from the right article section to the right service, solution and enquiry path.

For example: AI-search research → clear GEO/SEO caveats → website service + Lavish Beauty case → enquiry. A natural editorial link, not a disruptive sales banner.

08 / DECISION BY DECISION

What changed, and why it matters.

A structured comparison of key decisions across strategy, information architecture, UX, and engineering.

11 / THE PHILOSOPHY

A useful website should think
like a good business partner.

Understand how the work really happens. Choose the right experience and technology. Build something the business can maintain and evolve. We have used our own site as a working example of that approach.
